A Republican-controlled Senate committee often parts ways with Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell over state fiscal matters, but today it approved a bill that gives him what he wants.
The Appropriations Committee voted for Senate Bill 490, which deals with $174 million in revenue stemming from leases of state land for natural gas exploration and drilling. The bill says the money will go to help erase the 2008-09 budget deficit of $2.3 billion.
