PennFuture: House Republican Energy Plan is Not Responsible

Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future (PennFuture) today decried the House Republican Energy Task Force plan to open up large portions of Pennsylvania’s State Forests to massive Marcellus Shale drilling instead of charging a severance tax on all drilling in the Commonwealth.

“This plan to open up hundreds of thousands of acres of state forest, whether or not it harms our natural resources, is the height of fiscal and environmental irresponsibility,” said Jan Jarrett, president and CEO of PennFuture. “The Republican Energy Task Force wants to give the industry a free pass to drill anywhere without paying a severance tax – the same tax they have to pay in most other states.
