A major push to extract natural gas beneath northern Wayne County is gaining traction with two prominent energy companies joining forces to develop an extensive 140,000-acre area.
Hess Corporation, which recently landed the 80,000-acre Northern Wayne County Property Owners Alliance, agreed on Wednesday to enter into a joint venture with Houston-based Newfield Exploration Company.
The agreement entails that Newfield Exploration Company, which has a considerable number of production wells in the western U.S., will drill exploration natural gas wells for Hess Corporation in the alliance’s leasehold area, according to company statements and a phone interview with a Hess spokesperson. That area generally extends north of Honesdale Borough.
