Parts of Pennsylvania are in the midst of a gold rush of sorts, and the same forces behind it are eyeing New York next.

The Marcellus Shale Formation — a 95,000-square-mile stretch of subterranean rock loaded with natural gas — stretches from West Virginia into the Southern Tier. And natural gas drilling and extraction has rocketed in parts of Pennsylvania in recent months.
