Some Canadian pipeline companies such as TransCanada Corp. and Union Gas Ltd. are considering requests from U.S. companies to supply Ontario with natural gas from the Marcellus shale in the U.S., the Globe and Mail said.
TransCanada and Union gas issued “open season” calls to determine the interest of gas producers in the Marcellus formation in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the newspaper said.
Such a move would displace Alberta natural gas producers that have supplied Ontario for about 50 years, the Globe said today.
TransCanada Vice President Steve Pohlod told the newspaper it is too early to say whether there is enough interest from gas producers to reconfigure pipelines.
